As the winter weather sets in and the days grow shorter, it’s easy to start feeling under the weather. Whether you’ve caught a cold, or you’re simply feeling the chill of the season, there’s nothing quite like a warm bowl of creamy tomato soup to warm you up from the inside out. This classic comfort food is easy to make and always hits the spot.

And, when it comes to comfort food, sometimes it’s the simple things that bring us the most joy. That’s certainly the case for my son, who loves nothing more than a warm bowl of creamy tomato soup paired with a crispy grilled cheese sandwich. There’s something about the combination of the tangy tomato soup and the gooey, melted cheese that just can’t be beat.

Whenever we make tomato soup at home, my son is always the first one to ask for a grilled cheese to go with it. And it’s not just about eating the sandwich on the side – he loves to dunk it in the soup and let the flavors mix and mingle.

To make the perfect grilled cheese to go with your tomato soup, start by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Butter (or try mayonnaise) one side of two slices of bread and place them butter-side down in the pan. Add a slice of your favorite cheese to one slice of bread, and then top with the other slice of bread, butter-side up. Cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, flipping once to ensure both sides are evenly browned.

Once you’ve got your grilled cheese ready, it’s time to start dipping! Just be careful not to let the sandwich soak up too much soup, or it might fall apart. My son likes to take small bites and savor the flavor combination with each one. Then, he’ll ask for a second grilled cheese – LOL!

Whether you’re feeling under the weather or just need a little comfort on a cold day, tomato soup and grilled cheese is a classic combination that’s sure to hit the spot. So the next time you’re in need of some cozy comfort food, try pairing my creamy tomato soup recipe with a delicious grilled cheese sandwich – and don’t forget to dunk!
